The Community
Blending the best of town and country, Harrison is a predominantly residential town which quietly grants every modern amenity. Within a carefully protected rural atmosphere of tree-lined streets, the relaxation of small-town living harmoniously coexists with Harrisons "Platinum Mile." It is on this Platinum Mile where numerous large corporations such as PepsiCo, Morgan Stanley and MasterCard have established world headquarters. Sophisticated employment opportunities and outstanding shopping are also available in neighboring White Plains. Harrison shelters a population of 26,500 within a large area of 27 square miles, the distance founder John Harrison could gallop on that day in 1696 when he bought the land form the Siwanoy Indians. Because of its sprawling size it is divided into many sections from West Harrison to Downtown Harrison. The northern most area is Purchase, a privileged area of fine estate homes.
Education and Cultural Facilities
Harrison Central School District?s four elementary schools have twice received the United States Office of Education Excellence Award. This recognition is given to schools ranking in the 99th percentile nationwide. There district includes a middle school for grades 6 through 8 which is housed in what was once the high school. Harrison High Schools four-acre campus was built in the 70s also provides superior educational programs. Keio Academy, a private high school and an affiliate of Tokyos Keio University is located in Purchase. The New York State University College at Purchase has a performing arts center with a concert hall hailed as having acoustics to compare with Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. The college also houses the Neuberger Museum, a most prestigious center of the arts. Nearby Manhattanville College, on the former grounds of the Whitelaw Reid Estate offers undergraduate and graduate studies. The Stern School of Business of New York University is located at the college and provides superb opportunities for advanced degrees. These institutions contribute greatly to Harrisons thriving cultural life.
Recreational Facilities
Home of the famous Barclays Golf Classic held annually at Harrisons Westchester Country Club, the town boasts 5 additional private country clubs with golf courses. Recreation is a high priority in Harrison with eighty acres of parkland set aside for townspeople. The facilities include many tennis courts, three swimming pools and extensive supervised programs add other opportunities for leisure enjoyment. The lovely Silver Lake Preserve invites swimming, boating, camping and hiking.
Transportation
Only 23 miles north of New York City, Harrison is a short 36 minute commute via Metro North express train too Grand Central Station in mid-town Manhattan. Interstate 95, 87, 287, The Hutchinson River Parkway, Merritt Parkway, and the Saw Mill River Parkway provide convenient access to Westchesters network of major roads. Air travel is most convenient as the Westchester County Airport is situated within Harrisons borders and serves many cities directly with many airlines. LaGuardia and JFK airports are within comfortable driving distance.
