Pre-Closing Checklist for Buyers and Sellers
 

As soon as closing is scheduled:

For Sellers:

Notify Consolidated Edison of closing date and arrange to have gas and electric meters read. Homeowners may read the meters themselves and call the readings in to Con Ed on the day of the closing.

You should also give the representative the name(s) of the new owner(s) into whose name the account will be transferred.

If the home is heated by oil you must call your individual oil company to measure the oil left in the tank so that you may reimbursed for the cost of it at the closing.

For Sellers & Buyers:

(Buyers must call Consolidated Edison and water company to open account in new owners name(s))

Notify the local water company of the closing date and arrange to have the water meter read.
Provide the name of the new owner to the representative.

Call Cablevision and cancel or transfer account. You must return the cable boxes if moving from the area and will no longer have an account. There is a hefty deposit/penalty of
$ 200+ if the boxes are not returned. Be sure to get a receipt for the return. 914-937-0774

Sellers: Notify the local post office of your change of address.
Call individual phone service providers to discontinue or transfer service

Buyers: Notify the local post office to start delivery of mail.
Call individual phone service providers for new service
